5 winter hiking tips to help you stay out longer

February 24, 2021 by Brozine

Winter is the time when you can observe nature more closely. Moreover, most of the hiking trails are empty in this time. The reason is temperature drops and unavailability of comfortable gears to deal with these temperature drops. So, it’s the best time when you can go for hiking.

Following are some winter hiking tips that will help you stay out even longer in winter weather.

Do some research about the area

Have you chosen a particular hiking track to make winter a fun? If yes, make sure you have researched properly about that area like what could be the maximum temperature there or do you have to experience any hidden danger there.

Ensure that you have everything to dress in layers

You can maintain your body temperature even in the coldest winter if you dress in layers. You can remove or add these layers when temperature varies from day to night on your hiking track.

Use the dressing of merino wool

Merino wool is the real winter fabric that’s hard to beat. Believe me you would never regret buying it. So spend some money on it and enjoy winter hikes.

Never let your face open

Covering your face makes a big difference in sub-zero temperatures. You can’t expose your skin to extreme weather conditions.

Use hand warmers

Hand warmers are quick solution to deal with extremely cold weather. They offer you instant warmth. Even you can use them to sooth frostbites on chin, ears and nose.

Take enough matches and water with you

You might believe that drinking water make you feel cold. But you’re mistaken because a hydrated body feels less cold. Most importantly fire is essential to offer you extra warmth. And it’s hard to have fire without matches.

Ensure that your radar app work properly

A radar app ensures that you are prepared for every kind of upcoming weather. So, have the one which is accurate and precise.

Prepare yourself for diverse trail conditions

Winter trails vary every week. So, you must keep an extra pair of snowshoes and winter cleats in your car to deal with any trail condition you may encounter.

Take some beer with you

Beer and burger can make your hiking experience even more fun. Hike a few miles and take some burger and beer to feel extra warmth at sub-zero temperature.

Hike with friends

Friends can multiply your hiking fun. However, in winter friends are safety thing rather than fun. They can rescue you in extreme weather conditions ad offer you aid timely.

Tents Vs Hammocks – Which One Should You Choose?

February 15, 2021 by Brozine

Hammocks are becoming popular among campers. And certainly, it’s hard for you to choose between the Hammocks and tents if you’re going on camping, trekking, or hiking. Each accommodation has its own perks and can impact your camping experience.

In this article, we will discuss Tents vs Hammocks to help you easily decide which accommodation is the best for you.

  1. Dealing with environment

Whenever you think about the hammock, you may think

What about the rain, wind, cold weather, and mosquitos?

Tents can protect you from all these environmental factors. However, we can’t say anything about the mosquitos because tents don’t protect against them. To avoid them, you should use any bug spray.

Well, it’s also possible to deal with all these problems in the hammock with under-quilts and over-quilts. It means you can get protection from wind in a hammock too. To get protection from rain, you can consider buying traps.

To sum up, both are suitable to deal with the environment, provided you have installed it in the right way.

  1. Size and Weight

Generally, ultralight tents are heavier than a hammock. However, the weight difference is not much. The weight of a heavy-duty tent is mostly 6 lb, whereas the weight of a hammock is at most two pounds. So, hammock wins the race of weight.

However, the reality is the opposite. You have to carry quilts, a rain trap, and a mosquito net with a hammock. Ultimately, the net weight of the hammock is more.

  1. Choice of location

Camping has a golden principle; never leave any trace on the camping site. That’s why you should not camp on the site where the ground is not bare. But, it’s not possible with large tents.

On the other hand, you just need a pair of trees to install a hammock.

  1. Comfort

Are you sure you will get comfortable and smooth ground on your camping site? Well, you never know if you have not visited that place before.

Tents are not comfortable to choose in places in woody areas. In such areas, only a comfortable air mattress is the option.

On the other hand, you don’t need to worry about comfort if you’re carrying a hammock.

Final thoughts..!!

When it comes to Tents vs Hammocks, the Hammocks seem the winner. They are comfortable, protect from different environmental factors, and are easy to carry due to their size and weight. But it doesn’t mean tents are of no use or you should not carry them. They have their own advantages and can be a better choice in many cases.
